Gone for Good in partnership with Cancer Research UK

Since launching nationally in April 2016 the Gone for Good app has connected nearly £750,000 worth of donations with our partnering charities. The app has proved very successful with people wanting to donate large items, such as sofas and furniture.  It has also been used by individuals that have substantial amounts of clothes or bric-a-brac to donate, which are too heavy to deliver on foot or too big to fit in the car.

However, when it comes to smaller items or fewer bags we realise that some people just want to drop them off themselves but don’t always know where their nearest charity store is.

In response to this need and in partnership with Cancer Research UK, we are delighted to announce our Easy Drop Off function.

“We’re incredibly excited about the launch of the new easy drop off function on the Gone for Good app,” says Lynn Muller, Head of Product at Cancer Research UK’s shops, “We want to give our supporters the best possible donation experience and this new function helps make donating pre-loved items easy and convenient.

“Our shop teams can’t wait to start welcoming new donors who have found their nearest Cancer Research UK shop through the app.”

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. We receive no government funding and are immensely proud of the role our 600 shops play in communities up and down the UK. Last year Cancer Research UK raised more than £90 million, primarily through the sale of fashion, homeware, books and media generously donated by supporters, and our own range of greeting cards and gifts. Please support us by shopping, donating good quality items or joining in the fun as a volunteer at your local shop: cruk.org/shops / @CRUKshops

Easy Drop Off Function: How it works

1.  Download the Gone for Good app from   or

2.  Click on ‘DONATE ITEM(S)’

3.  Describe your items

This is so that the app can match you with a charity store which accepts that type of donation – for example, not all shops take electrical items or large furniture.

4.  Choose a charity

There are over 20 charities that partner with Gone for Good. Cancer Research UK is leading the way in adopting the Easy Drop Off function. The plan is for our other partnering charities to be added at a later stage.

5.  Drop off details

Once the app has identified a charity shop near you that accepts the category of items that you have to donate, it will then show you where it is located.

Along with a map, the app will also show the opening times and indicate whether or not there is parking.

Retail Gift Aid

When you drop off your donations, don’t forget to ask about gift aid.  If you are a UK tax payer charities can claim an extra 25% on the value of your donation. Detailed information on how this works for CRUK can be seen here
